My Favorite Hotel in Athens

02/12/18

Athens before Christmas, the streets are starting to get decorated festively with glittering elements on the cafes, trees, and squares.

In the 48 hours we had in the city, we stayed in the lively and young neighborhood of Psyri, a 2-minute walk from Monastiraki Square, where I finally found my little hotel in town, the one I intend to return to again and again when I arrive in Athens in the future.   – The Frogs Guesthouse.

Only four months ago it has opened in a neo-classical building renovated from 1840, on the street named after the playwrights Aristofanous. The hotel name – “the frogs” is taken from a comedy he wrote in 405 BC.

This is a small boutique hotel with only 3 rooms, so the attitude is very personal and the design is charming, trendy and meticulous.

Each room is individually decorated with high-quality materials, luxurious bedding, and maximum comfort.

The entrance to the hotel is from a picturesque alley a few steps from Pesyri Square, an area with many cafes and bars.

The rooms are located above a small bar with excellent drinks and cocktails and several breakfast tables with a young, cool atmosphere and fine background music.

The owners, Angelo and Lydia, greeted us with smiles and excellent coffee. They were kind, nice and friendly.

We also ordered a light meal that was excellent, their breakfast is inspired by the simplicity and taste of Mediterranean products.

The rooms are comfortable, well equipped, renovated and in a warm design.

The Frogs Guesthouse definitely goes into the list of one of my favorite places in Athens!

Not far from there, it is worth climbing up to the roof of the “A For Athens” hotel located in Monastiraki Square.

An elevator will take you to “Roof Garden” – a restaurant and café overlooking the square and the Acropolis – a sight you don’t want to miss out.

Athens is wonderful during winter. And you can take a small trip to a European city that will make you feel at home.
