A Love Story from Corfu

30/4/18

Even after four years of living in Corfu Island, Naama Peretz, an Israeli married to a native Greek native, says that she has many more places she has not yet seen.

Corfu has many small, hidden beaches and it takes time to get to know the whole island. She never thought she would live in Greece, but life was full of surprises. Just before her military service she traveled to a number of islands and then forgot about Greece for many years. She came to Corfu for the first time through a summer ‘deal’ trip, where she and fell in love with both the man of her dreams and the island.

Today, she says, there is a growing trend of Israelis who fall in love with the place and buy summer homes, creating a large community of Israelis that lives on the island during the summer months as well as a number of Israelis living there all year long.

The landscape of Corfu is different from the other Greek islands – it is very green, with lush vegetation, huge cliffs and turquoise water. The island is reminiscent of parts of Thailand. Its closeness to Italy makes for its European character and appearance.

The northern part of the island is more mountainous and the southern part is more virgin and flat.

The family villa located in the south of the island in the fishing village of Messonghi was renovated by Naama and her husband and turned into a Rent-a-villa during the summer season, which begins in May and ends in October.

The two-storey villa is built on an acre of olive trees with a private beach.

The villa can accommodate up to 10 adults plus 2 children comfortably, in five bedrooms and a suite.

The villa has 5 renovated and upgraded bathrooms, a dining area, a barbecue and a fully equipped kitchen. In the mornings you can indulge in a breakfast in the dining room or on the terrace overlooking the sea, enjoying a meal prepared by a chef who uses organic vegetables.

Another very nice option for upgrading your stay: lunch and dinner, professional massages, private ATVs, water skiing lessons, supermarket deliveries, transportation to the airport or other destinations around the island.

The village of Messonghi has a selection of restaurants, fish taverns, cafes, bars and clubs, shops and supermarkets.

The villa itself is in a quiet and tranquil location, overlooking the beach and 5 minutes from the village center and all activities.

The village of Messonghi is a 25-minute drive from Kirkara – the ancient central city which is a labyrinth of narrow stone alleys and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The villa is very suitable for groups or a large family.

For those travelling to Corfu with children and looking for activities – most of the attractions include the sea, of course ..

There is a huge water park, the third largest in Europe, about half an hour drive from the villa. There are water sports options (bananas, tubs, parachutes, water skiing), the boat called Kalipso Star that has a glass floor and they do shows for children with sea lions and divers and so on.

But the best way is simply to be with the children, with all the peace and tranquility that a vacation in Greece gives, watching them reconnect with nature, sun, sea, sand. Quality time for family conversations and games.

It is possible to arrange a guided tour with Na’ama on the island, including the Old City, the Jewish Quarter with an explanation of Jewish history, and other places on the island that must not be missed – such as the famous bay of Paleokastritsa, Sidari Beach, Kasiopi, and more.

Another option is to go on a sailing day. With Na’ama and her husband’s own racing boats you can see Corfu from the sea, get peaceful magical beaches with a lunch stop at an excellent fish and seafood restaurant. Another recommended sail is to neighboring islands – to Paxos, the exclusive and prestigious island of the Yachtingers, and Antipaxos which is known for the most beautiful beach in all of Greece.

So if you are like me, and you like to stay in Greece with Israeli hosts who understand the needs and the language, who know the Israeli pace, curiosity and taste – it is very worthwhile to stay in Na’ama’s villa. and the best part? if you tell Na’ama that you came through Greekit, you will get a discount price – how great is that?!
